Newsletter – January 25, 2023

NOTE: This blog is posted by a volunteer. No one from the farm checks or responds to messages here. You must contact the farm directly with any questions, comments, etc. Please also note that it is not possible to only receive summer share newsletters.

Winter distribution: Today is #6 of 8 distributions for the winter season.  You should be receiving leeks, sweet potatoes, red potatoes, carrots, watermelon radishes, onions, cabbage, garlic, winter squash, red beans and yellow popcorn.

Note to the DC’s:  Sam will no longer be doing the Boulder route.  Kyle will be doing the whole route starting today until the end of the winter distribution.  For the DC’s that Sam delivered to, Kyle will be at your places in the afternoon maybe starting around noon at the first stop.

Hope you all have a warm and great rest of your week!

Farm Update – January 23, 2023

Hello everyone –

We hope you all are doing well!

Newsletters:  Some newsletters dated January 2022 were accidentally printed and mailed out.  We do not know how many people received the incorrect newsletter.  The latest newsletter is dated December 30, 2022.  If you received the wrong one in the mail and would like us to mail you the correct one, please contact the office by phone.

Discounted prices: If you use the paper sign up form for this coming summer, the prices are already discounted.  These prices are less than the prices that are going to be on the website.  These prices are good for everyone who uses the sign up form, regardless of how you pay.  You can pay by Zelle or check.  There is no further discount if you pay in full.  If you chose to pay through Zelle, please send your payment to : jacquie@monroefarm.com.

Price Changes:  We have been notified by Croft Family Farm that the cost of eggs is increasing.  Instead of $7.00 per dozen, they are now $7.50 per dozen.  They notified us of the price change after the signup forms were printed and already mailed out.  This price is still lower than the cost of a dozen humanely raised, high quality eggs at the stores right now.  They are limiting us to a certain amount of eggs we can receive from them this coming season.  We are hoping we will stay under their cap of eggs we will be distributing per week.  Please watch your confirmation letters about the eggs you wanted to order.  We believe we may reach that maximum cap soon.

Honey: We are still trying to line up an organic honey vendor.  Thank you to those that have suggested different farms!  Please watch the blog or newsletters for the update.  We do not know right now if we will be able to keep the same prices that we have had in the past.  We have talked to one honey vendor and their prices are higher than what we want our members to pay.

Animals:  All processed meat is ready for pick up at Valley Packing in LaSalle if you have not picked yours up yet.  Just as a reminder for this coming fall:  the price we list on the signup forms for the animals is the cost for us to raise that animal and transport it to Valley Packing for processing.  Valley Packing will have their own charges for their processing that will need to be paid when you arrive to take your meat home.  Their charges are based on the weight and how your animal was processed.  For example: if you want your ground hamburger into formed patties, they charge extra for that.  Also, once your animal leaves the farm, it is considered yours.  Any inquiries, questions or concerns after that time need to be directed to Valley Packing.

Website:   We hope to have the website up and running to place orders around the end of January.  We are still in the process of updating everything on it.

Distribution Centers:  Joan Ditges will be the new Distribution Center in Broomfield off of Midway and Highway 287.  Thank you Joan!  Shelby Campbell, a brand new member this year, will be the Distribution Center in South Boulder off of Table Mesa Drive and Highway 36.  Thank you Shelby!

As always, if you have any questions, concerns, suggestions or critiques, please contact the office by phone.  We want to hear any input you may have.

Wishing you all peace and blessings this coming year!
